The High-Dimensional Society

Work in progress

Speculative fiction set in a high-dimensional society, where AI-enabled protocols coordinate life at planetary scale, freeing each community to define "human scale" for itself. But as new forms of coordination dissolve many of today's hardest problems, this society of tomorrow discovers an entirely new class of challenges humanity has no script for.

The High-Dimensional Society is a speculative novel, being written during PiBoWriMo 2026, the Protocol Institute's book-writing month, starting November 2026.

It imagines the world argued for in the essay The High-Dimensional Society (January 2026). Modern society scales by compressing people into simple proxies, then overfits on them until whatever the proxies can't see withers: what the essay calls dimensional poverty. AI, for the first time in human history, offers the possibility of protocols that coordinate human societies at a planetary scale without flattening human complexity into the conformity that modern-day proxies require.

Progress will be posted here and in the notes as the writing develops.
